School children look forward to Summer. It is time for Summer vacation which is a time for rest and relaxation. A little R & R benefits parents and children. It is time for the family for take a road trip and visit fun and historical landmarks which is a learning experience for their school age children and teenagers. Families need to get together during the summer months and have summer fun. And, that includes Summer Reading, especially for the kids. When you think of summer activities for kids, Summer Reading should be right at the top of the list.
The more children read the more they enjoy reading. They can find challenging nonfiction books to read and fiction books suitable for their age range. When they return to school after Summer vacation children who read are returning to class with a larger vocabulary coupled with clear language skills.
Along with summer camp and other fun summer activities, summer reading can be done in a relaxed state while the family winds down for the day. Also, children can share what they have read with the whole family and that certainly will improve the child's reading comprehension when he or she returns to class in the fall. It's a win-win situation!
