Imagine for a moment that you could lose weight without any worries. How would your day be? Then what kinds of things would you be able to do? Not being overweight could help you feel what it's like to sit comfortably in a movie theater chair, go for a long walk with your grand-kids , or enjoy the thrill of playing your favorite sport again. Even simple things like going to the bathroom, taking a shower, and putting on clothes would be a lot better. Keep thinking about what kinds of dreams you could be living if you didn't have to worry about your weight. How do you think you look? You could save a lot of money. Think about not having to worry about gaining or losing weight ever again. Also, picture being able to eat whatever you want without worrying about your weight! You can lose weight and keep it off for good! For most people this sounds too good to be true. But, it is possible to have all of that and more. In addition to making you healthier, a tasty plant-based diet full of whole foods can give you all of those things. An author of The China Study, named T. Colin Campbell, says that a diet high in whole foods and plants can lower your chance of heart disease, diabetes, arteriosclerosis, cancer, and many other common illnesses. There is a big issue with obesity. We all know that people are too fat in the United States right now. But, most likely, there is not a single overweight person who likes being that way. There is no need for numbers to show that two out of three people in the United States are overweight. Just look at your friends, family, church members, and co-workers. In 2002, it was estimated that obesity cost the United States $100 billion in medical care. That really is a billion! You won't believe it, but that's $30 billion more than what was spent in 1999. It's crazy that we spend billions of dollars every year on medical care for overweight people when there are millions of children around the world who are going hungry. Here Is The Answer Things don't have to be this way. You can free yourself from weight loss problems and be in the best health of your life! You can get rid of all the stress and guilt that come with eating poorly. It is possible to make eating a joy and not a math problem. According to Dr. Campbell, studies have shown over and over that people who don't eat any animal products, like vegetarians and vegans, tend to be much thinner than people who eat the normal American diet. The people who took part in one study were told they could eat as much low-fat, whole-food, plant-based food as they wanted. The people lost an average of 17 pounds each in three weeks. Whole plant-based foods vs. vegetarian foods Something needs to be said to make this clear. People can be veggie and still be too heavy. What happens is that some vegans just eat refined grains, pastas, breads, and sweets instead of meat. A plant-based, whole food diet is the best way to lose weight and stay fit. When it comes to plant-based foods that haven't been processed or have been processed very little, you can eat as much as you want. Nuts and seeds that have been soaked (not raw or cooked), brown rice, oat groats, and different kinds of legumes and beans are some examples. Breads, pastries, milk, cheese, foods with added sugars or artificial sweeteners, canned fruits, and other foods don't meet the whole food guidelines. At first, it can be hard to switch from cooking processed foods to cooking delicious whole food meals. The recipe book Dining In The Raw by Rita Romano is a great tool to help you do this. As part of your plan, make sure you work out. We all know that working out helps with weight loss. One study found that doing just 15 to 45 minutes of exercise every day can help you stay 11 to 18 pounds lighter than you would be otherwise. But that's not the whole story. Also, some scientific data shows that vegetarians generally have a higher metabolic rate. This means that they burn more of the calories they eat instead of storing them as fat. You can make a choice Every year, millions of people in our country have problems with weight loss. Most of these issues can be fixed by learning about and believing in the right kinds of things that are good for you. That being said, a diet plan or a diet drink will never help you reach your weight loss goals. According to Dr. Campbell, the diet that helps you lose weight in the short term should also be the diet that keeps you healthy in the long term. This way, we can control the cause of obesity. It's at the very end of our weight loss curve.
